Rant: My new punty technique made the piece wobble.
How do you all manage stability when switching pipes?

Dealing with wobble sucks, but tweaking the heat on the punty changed everything for me. I started heating the tip until it was almost glowing, not just warm. That extra heat lets it stick better and reduces shake when you switch. Also, keeping the main pipe moving slowly helps balance things out. Once I got the timing down, my pieces came out way straighter. Might take a few tries, but it's worth it to avoid the wobble.

Totally! I had the same wobble problem until I turned up the punty heat. One time, I was making a bowl and the shake was awful. I heated the punty tip until it was bright orange, not just warm, and it stuck way better. Keeping the pipe moving slow helped balance it out too. Now I always get that glow, and my pieces come out straight.

Does that change based on how thick the glass is? I struggled with wobble on heavier pieces even with a hot punty, until I left a little more room to move the pipe while it's attached.
