That office build where the glass delivery put my ethics on the line
Last month on an office job, we were putting in new windows with laminated glass for safety on the lower floors. The delivery showed up with half of it being plain annealed glass instead. My foreman told me to just install it to avoid delays. I froze up, thinking about how bad it could be if that glass broke and hurt someone. After some tense talks, I sneaked a call to the glass company and they admitted they sent the wrong stuff. They fixed it fast by sending the safe glass the next day. My foreman was mad at first, but later he saw I was right. Now I look back and chuckle, but man, that day was wild.

Ever get that sudden 'oh crap' feeling in your gut? Reminds me of the time I totally messed up measuring a closet and tried to play it off. Doing the right thing always feels awful in the moment but you definitely slept better that night.

How do you shake off that awful feeling after a mistake? I totally botched a cake order last week, forgot to add sugar. My first thought was to blame the oven or something, but that felt worse. So I called the client, admitted it, and offered a full refund. They were annoyed but appreciated the honesty. Slept like a baby that night, just like you said.

Read this thing about how our brains treat mistakes like physical threats, which is why that sinking feeling hits so hard. Your fix was perfect, you basically rewired the response by facing it head on. I once spilled coffee all over a client's paperwork and my first instinct was to hide it. Fessing up immediately was brutal but cut the dread off at the knees. That quick correction stops the mental spiral.
