Hot take: This little island's plastic ban changed how I see travel

I went to a small island in the Philippines where they forbid all single-use plastics. They serve drinks in bamboo cups and use banana leaves for packing snacks, which really cuts down on garbage. The water is clearer and the trails are cleaner because of it. It's a quiet spot most tourists skip, but it shows how simple fixes can make a trip better for the planet.

What makes those bamboo cups work without leaking? I tried a similar set-up on a camping trip... used dried gourds for water. They held up better than plastic bottles in the heat. Makes you see how old ways can fix new problems.

Ever think those plastic bans were just for show? I used to roll my eyes at stuff like that, figuring it was a hassle that didn't really fix anything. But hearing how clear the water is and how clean the trails are because they actually stuck with it, that's pretty solid proof. It makes you see that skipping the plastic straw isn't just a silly trend. Maybe the best trips are the ones that don't leave a mark.

Hold up... gotta disagree with @mason.elizabeth here. Those bans just make people feel good without fixing the real mess. Sure, a trail looks clean, but what about all the new paper straws that get used once and thrown out? They fall apart in your drink and lots of places just ignore the rules anyway. Feels like we traded one problem for another while patting ourselves on the back.
