Heard a guy at the record store say my playlist was too predictable

Heard a guy at the record store say my playlist was too predictable. I was flipping through bins at this small shop in Portland last weekend and this dude behind the counter overheard the shuffle on my phone. He goes, 'You got a playlist that's just all the hits, huh?' without even looking at me. It bugged me at first but then I looked at my main driving playlist and he was right. It was like 40 songs I pulled from the Top 100 charts from the last few years with nothing weird or deep. I spent the next hour digging through old B-sides and local band stuff he recommended. Now I'm thinking I gotta rebuild the whole thing with more variety. Anyone else get called out for having a boring mix?

Oh MAN that cuts deep because I've been there. But here's what I'm wondering - did you push back at ALL or just nod along? Like what makes HIS curated taste so much better than yours? I mean was he spinning some obscure 1967 Peruvian psych rock album or was he just being a snob about Arctic Monkeys B-sides? Because half the time these gatekeeper types act superior but their "deep cuts" are just stuff from the same Pitchfork-approved list.
