Showerthought: Ran into an old coworker at the grocery store who used to do leather tooling

I was grabbing milk at 2am after my shift and saw this guy I used to work with at the hospital back in 2019. He stopped me and asked if I still did that leather carving I was always talking about back then. I totally forgot I used to spend like 3 hours a night making belts and wallets in my garage. He said he still had the bifold I made him and it got me thinking about all the tools I packed up and shoved in a bin. Has anyone else bumped into someone who reminded them of a hobby you just dropped cold turkey?

Read something recently about how adult hobbies die because we don't have an audience for them anymore, sounds about right with that packed up bin.

@robinson.jake that audience thing hits hard. I was showing people my tooling at work all the time and that validation kept me going. Once I switched jobs nobody cared and I just stopped. My leather dye is probably totally dried out in that bin by now.
