How night diving made my favorite reef feel brand new

I started night diving at Coral Gardens last year. I picked up how to use my light to spot hidden sea life. It's amazing to see crabs and lobsters come out after dark. This skill has added a whole new layer to my diving trips.

Yikes, I tried moving slow once and still scared away every crab within ten feet.

Absolutely love this, night diving totally changes the game. Get a red filter for your light if you can, it messes with the sea life way less so you can watch them longer. Move super slow and let your eyes adjust, you'll spot way more stuff hiding in plain sight. It's like getting to dive the same spot for the first time all over again.

Ever try to find an octopus tucked into a crack during the day, only to see it out hunting at night? I read a piece about how their skin even looks different under a dive light, way more textured. @the_luna is right about moving slow, I watched a moray eel cruise right past my fins once because I just froze. The whole reef vibe shifts when it's dark.
