Pro tip: Keep an eye on visibility shifts at Molasses Reef
We dove Molasses Reef yesterday and the vis dropped fast from 80 to 20 feet out of nowhere. Sticking close to the reef wall, we found a hidden cave full of lobsters we'd have missed otherwise. Staying calm and not panicking turned a tricky situation into a cool find. Just a heads up to always have a compass and light handy there.

My dive at Molasses Reef last year had the SAME thing happen, visibility went from great to basically zero in what felt like minutes. I got completely turned around even with my compass, it was genuinely scary. @gonzalez.vera is totally right to call that out, it is a dangerous situation and not some cool trick. What felt like a long time being lost was probably only a few minutes, but it completely changed how I plan my dives now. Calling that a pro tip is wild, it is pure luck that didn't end badly.

Call that a lucky break, not a diving strategy. Honestly, sudden vis loss is how accidents happen, even with gear. You got lucky this time, but preaching it as a tip is irresponsible.

Man I read about this exact scenario in a diving guidebook once. The author called Molasses a "visibility trap" because clear water can pull you far from the reef before it goes murky. His big point was to always drop a buoy line at your entry point there, no exceptions. That story about the lobsters is cool, but it really does sound like a close call masked by a good outcome.
