Artists, your flawless sketchbook tours are setting unrealistic expectations
I see beginners intimidated by these curated displays of perfection. When did we stop valuing the messy, exploratory pages?

I get what you mean about them showing what's possible, but calling messy pages "just a different stage" kinda proves the original point lol. The problem is beginners often don't get to see that stage at all, so they compare their own chaotic process to someone's finished, curated highlight reel. It can make the journey feel way more linear and straightforward than it actually is. That gap between their reality and the polished tour is where the intimidation and frustration really fester for a lot of people. There's a big difference between being motivated and feeling like you're already behind.

Actually those polished tours can be really motivating. Shows what's possible with dedicated practice, gives people something to aim for. The messy pages are just a different stage of the process.
