Just realized motion sensor lights cut my energy waste big time

I put motion sensors on my lights last month. Before, I'd leave lights on in empty rooms all the time. Now, they turn off automatically when no one's there. My electricity use went down by like 15%. It's a simple fix that really helps the planet.

My garage one pays for itself since I always forgot to hit the switch.

Did it cost much to set up initially? I read some cities actually give out free or cheap motion sensors because they cut down on overall power grid strain. Makes total sense why they'd push for that, less waste means they don't have to produce as much juice at peak times. Your 15% drop seems pretty standard from what I've seen. It's one of those small changes that doesn't change your life at all but adds up to a big difference. More people should know it's that easy.

My utility company in Austin had a program that gave out motion sensors for like five bucks. You're spot on, @daniel_jones, about cities wanting to cut grid strain. I hooked mine up in the garage and laundry room, and my next bill was down 10%. It's crazy how just turning lights off automatically makes such a difference. I barely notice them but they're always working. More folks should look into these programs, it's a no brainer.
