Storage loft vs. built-in cabinets, picked the wrong one first

When I built my 280 square foot tiny home outside Portland last year, I had to choose between a big storage loft above the kitchen or floor-to-ceiling built-in cabinets. I went with the loft because I thought it would feel more open down below. After six months, I realized I was climbing up there maybe once a week for stuff, and everything else just sat in boxes. I ended up taking out the loft last month and putting in custom cabinets from a guy in Salem. Cost me about $1,400 total. Now I can grab my pans and canned goods without a ladder, but I lost that cozy sleeping nook vibe I originally loved. Has anyone else switched their storage setup mid-build or regretted a choice like this?

Kinda went through the same thing in my own build. Lofts look cool but you really don't realize how annoying the ladder gets until you're hauling a cast iron skillet up there every night.

Used to think lofts were the ultimate tiny home hack, but your post and @the_drew calling out the cast iron struggle totally changed my mind. Ladder life is not it for everyday stuff.
