Showerthought: How I turned a buzzing noise into a three-day mystery
Last week, I kept hearing this weird buzzing sound at night. I got so into it, I started logging the times, checking online for similar reports, and even made a map of my house to track the source. I convinced myself it was something sinister, like a hidden device or a pest infestation. After three days of losing sleep and annoying my partner with my theories, I finally figured it out. It was just my phone charger vibrating against the wooden nightstand when it got a notification. I felt so silly for turning a simple thing into a full-blown mystery. In my experience, sometimes our brains jump to the worst conclusions when we're tired. Your mileage may vary, but now I laugh at how I acted like a true crime podcaster over a charger.

Has a friend ever told you about a weird noise they chased down? My friend Dave once spent a whole weekend sure he had mice in his walls from scratching sounds. He bought traps and even called an exterminator, who found nothing. It turned out to be an old fan belt in his furnace rattling when it kicked on. He felt pretty dumb for not checking the simple stuff first, just like your charger mystery.

Was checking it out really silly if it could've been dangerous?

Curiosity gets the best of me too. I once went to see what that crashing sound was, fully expecting a burglar. Nope, just a stack of boxes falling over.
