TIL how breathing wrong messed up my lifts

I used to hold my breath during heavy squats... would get dizzy. A trainer told me to breathe in at the top, hold it on the way down, and blow out on the way up. It felt weird at first but now it's natural. My stability is much better and I don't get lightheaded. What breathing tricks do you all use? I wonder if there's a best way for each lift.

What?! You used to hold your breath the whole time during heavy squats? That's how people end up on the floor seeing spots. How did you not faint every single rep?

Powerlifters swear by it... core stability prevents injury.

Tbh I did the same thing for years! Saw more stars than an astronomer on leg day.
