A homeowner chewed me out for using too much silicone on a fridge seal
I was repairing a fridge door gasket in a house over by Oak Park last Tuesday. The guy watched me lay a thick bead of silicone and said, "You're making a mess for the next guy who has to clean that off." I thought I was doing a solid job, but he was right. Ever since, I only use the minimal amount needed to hold the gasket in place. Any of you got a similar story where a customer's complaint actually made you better at your job?

Oak Park, huh? I once had a guy over in River Forest yell at me for leaving a tiny bead of caulk on his tile floor, and honestly @finleyl55, he was totally right because I was too lazy to wipe it up. Now I keep a wet rag in my back pocket at all times so I don't become that messy guy who ruins the next person's day. It's funny how a little kick in the pants can make you REAL careful about the small stuff.

Man, the nerve of some people. Tbh though, I get what he meant. I once had a lady chew me out for leaving a little bit of dust on her counter after I cut a hole for a new vent hood. She was right, I was being sloppy. Now I always throw down a drop cloth and tape that thing down tight. I don't want to be the guy that makes the next person's job harder, even if it's just a little bit of dust.
