Finally figured out why my ice makers kept failing after a year
I had three calls last month alone where the ice maker in a Samsung fridge quit working right around the 13 month mark. Customer was ready to throw the whole unit out. I replaced the main board on the first one and it lasted maybe 4 months before the same issue came back. Then I started digging into it and realized the water inlet valve was getting stuck partially open due to a tiny piece of debris from a sediment filter that was never changed. I flushed the line and put in a new valve on the second call back in Cleveland and that unit has been running fine for 6 weeks now. Anyone else run into this where the problem was really upstream of the actual ice maker parts?

Classic case of blaming the last part instead of tracing back the real source.

You know, I used to be the one pointing fingers at the closest thing too. It just feels easier to blame whatever's right in front of you, you know? But reading stuff like this actually made me stop and think about how often the real issue is way earlier in the chain. It's so much harder to trace back but it makes a lot more sense once you start looking.
