Finally fixed a tricky GE fridge ice maker after 3 visits
Had this GE fridge in a house out in Maplewood that kept jamming the ice maker. Customer said it stopped working 2 months ago after some family party. Tried the usual stuff like replacing the water filter and checking the valve, no luck. Then I noticed the arm was getting stuck on a tiny chip of plastic from a broken tray. Sanded it down with some fine grit and it's been running smooth for a week now. Anyone else run into mold flash or plastic burrs causing ice maker issues?

Did you find any more of that plastic crap inside the ice maker after you sanded it down?

Three more shards popped out over the next week (tiny little bastards, about the size of a grain of rice). I ended up running about ten gallons of water through it before I felt safe using the ice. Took a Dremel with a sanding drum to the rough edge and smoothed it down with 400-grit wet/dry paper.
