Just spent $150 on a used thermal camera for my phone and it found a hot spot in a fridge compressor in like two minutes

Cheaper than a ghost hunter" is a funny line, but it misses the point. That thermal camera just saved you from a much bigger repair bill down the road. Finding a draft like @the_pat did is a nice bonus, but catching a compressor about to fail is the real win. Spending a bit to find a major problem early is just smart. Tools like that pay for themselves by stopping small issues from becoming huge ones.
