Overheard a homeowner say her fridge lasted 22 years before it died

She said her mom's 1982 GE still runs in the garage and that made me realize we don't build anything to last anymore, anyone else finding newer models fail way sooner?

My 2013 Samsung fridge died after 8 years. The compressor went out and the repair guy said it would cost more than a new one. I get that things used to last longer but I think people cherry pick the good examples. Nobody posts about the fridges that died after 5 years back in the 80s. Also, that 1982 GE probably uses way more electricity than a modern one so the savings aren't that clear.

Wait, should I feel bad about my fridge being a hand-me-down from my parents that's older than me? I mean, maybe it's just me but my 1997 Whirlpool is somehow still going, even though it sounds like a lawnmower and probably costs me a fortune in electricity.
