Shoutout to the old Maytag dryer that nearly took my thumb off last Tuesday
I was replacing the idler pulley on a 2007 Maytag Neptune, and the drum belt slipped while I had my hand in there. Snapped back so hard it left a bruise across my knuckles and scared me more than anything. Why does everyone say those older models are safer to work on?

Safer is a relative term with those things. They just mean you're less likely to get shocked, not that the moving parts won't try to bite you. That belt snap is a classic reminder.

My old shop teacher lost a fingertip to a lathe in the '90s. The safety demo was just about the power switch, not the spinning metal. Some lessons come with a free anatomy class.
