Shoutout to the retired guy in Tulsa who spotted my dryer hose kink from the driveway
I spent 2 hours and $85 on a new heating element for a dryer that was taking 90 minutes a load, and my neighbor Ray, who fixed appliances for 30 years, poked his head over the fence and pointed at the crushed foil hose behind the unit. Swapped it for a $12 semi rigid duct and now towels dry in 40 minutes flat, so the element is still sitting in the box on my bench. Anybody else got a customer story where the actual fix was way cheaper than the part they already bought?
That crushed foil hose thing got me because I did almost the exact same dumb move last spring. My fridge was running nonstop and the milk was going warm, so I ordered a $70 thermostat and watched like six repair videos on youtube. My uncle came by to drop off some tomatoes and pulled the fridge out, and the coils in the back were so matted with dog hair and dust it looked like a felt blanket. Vacuumed them off, fridge stopped running every ten minutes, and the thermostat is still in the bag on my shelf. Still kinda bugs me when I look at it, but hey, at least we know for next time.
