Still think about that old lady in Detroit who showed me her 40 year old dryer
She called me out to fix a noisy belt on a 1983 Kenmore, then told me she just wanted it to outlast her. Has anyone else had a customer that made you stop and think about what this job really means?

That line about wanting it to outlast her hits hard. I had a similar job where an old guy asked me to rebuild a 20 year old fridge motor because he said the new ones don't last like his did. Sometimes it's not about the appliance, it's about keeping a piece of their life running a little longer.

@jones.angela you nailed it with that fridge motor story. My grandmother had a 1950s toaster that my dad fixed every year until she passed. He said it was more about the toast... and her morning routine. Sometimes an object just carries a person's whole life in it.
