That $30 gasket sealant I swore by finally failed on a 10 year old fridge

Used it on a GE fridge in Spokane last month, held for two days then blew out again. Anyone found a brand that actually holds up on older rubber seals?

30 bucks for two days of cold air is a rough deal. I always figured that name brand stuff was better but after hearing this I'm starting to wonder if the real trick is just cleaning the old rubber really good with alcohol before you put anything on. The Permatex black stuff has held on my old Kenmore for about six months now but I live in a dry climate so humidity might be the real enemy here.

Heard something on a YouTube video about how the real issue with those gasket kits is the adhesion in humid climates. Basically the moisture gets trapped under there and peels it right off no matter what brand you buy. The guy ran a dehumidifier in his garage for a day before applying any sealant and said it lasted way longer. Might be worth trying if you ever have to redo it.
