That wholesaler's tip about compressor oil got me good

Last month a supplier in Denver swore generic POE oil was fine for a specific R410a swap, so I skipped the OEM stuff. Three weeks later the compressor seized on a Sunday call, cost the customer $800 extra and me a full day. Anyone else been burned trusting a parts guy's shortcut over the manual?

Damn, that hurts just reading it. I once took a counter guy's word on some "equivalent" filter drier and ended up with a system full of moisture and a $400 recovery cleanup. My own rule now is if the manual says OEM, I'm using OEM, even if it means waiting a day for shipping. Learned that lesson the hard way, same as you, and my wallet still hasn't forgiven me.
