The before and after on Samsung fridge ice makers is insane

I had a call last Tuesday in Austin where the customer said their ice maker was making hollow cubes for three months. I pulled the old unit out and the water inlet valve had this crusty buildup inside from hard water. I swapped it with a new valve and cleaned out the line with some vinegar solution. The difference in ice quality from day one to day 30 was night and day, solid clear cubes instead of those half frozen flakes. Has anyone else found that hard water buildup sneaks up faster than you expect on these newer models?

@mason_flores21 nailed it with the tighter passages thing. The real sneaky problem nobody talks about is how those new ice makers recirculate water way more aggressively, so the mineral concentration spikes faster than a regular line.

Man that hard water crust sneaks up way faster than you’d think, especially on the newer models with tighter passages. Glad you got it sorted out, those hollow cubes drive me nuts too.
