The dryer vent snake method I swore by for 12 years, gone now
I used to just jam that flex auger down the dryer vent every spring, felt the clog break and called it done. My buddy in Spokane finally made me borrow his camera scope last October, and boy did that change things. There was a lint wall about 4 feet in that I never even touched, plus a bird nest behind the outside flap. Now I pull the whole duct off and clear it section by section, takes maybe 20 extra minutes but the airflow is insane compared to before. Has anyone else stopped using the quick snake trick after actually seeing what stays behind?

Three years ago I found a dead mouse in mine, right at the bend where the pipe goes through the wall. I had been jamming that snake in there every fall and never once pulled the duct off the dryer, just thought the clunking meant I got everything. After I saw that, I started taking the whole thing apart too, and yeah the difference is night and day. My dryer went from taking ninety minutes to dry a load to about forty five, and the house doesn't get that weird musty smell anymore. It's a pain in the butt to unscrew everything, but I swear it's worth it every single time now.
