TIL that old timer who told me to always check the door seal before ordering a control board was actually spot on

Ignored his advice for two years and replaced three perfectly good boards on Samsung fridges before I finally checked the seal on the fourth one and found a tiny tear causing all the frost issues; has anyone else wasted time swapping parts that didn't need replacing?

Wait, you're telling me I could have saved myself three service calls and a whole lot of cursing by just looking at a rubber strip? I used to think door seals were one of those old wives' tales that techs passed around to sound smart, but nope, you're right on the money. I had a GE fridge that would ice up every couple months, swapped the defrost heater and the timer before I finally noticed a tiny gap in the gasket where it didn't seal right. Now I literally check the seal with a dollar bill before I touch any control board, it's become my first step.

Dollar bill test never fails. Simple fix.
