Turns out my 1987 Whirlpool had a capacitor from 1972

Pulled the run cap out of an old dryer last Tuesday and the date stamp said 1972, fifteen years older than the machine itself. Found out when I looked up the part number and cross-referenced it through a 1980s service bulletin. Anyone else run into parts that predate the unit by that much?

Doesn't that just make you wonder how many other parts in that thing were older than the machine itself? I had a similar moment with an old fridge once, pulled out the compressor start relay and the date code on it was from the late 60s, while the fridge was an early 80s model. It really makes you appreciate how manufacturers back then just used up whatever stock they had sitting on the shelf. Those old parts were built to last though, nobody makes them like that anymore. Honestly, it kind of makes me trust that dryer more than anything new you'd buy today. Good find, and good on you for actually checking that stamp.
