Warning: A customer in my shop told me all new washers are garbage

This guy brought his 2 year old front loader in for a noise, and while I was checking the bearings he said, 'They don't make them like they used to, everything new is just cheap junk.' It happened right in my bay in Cincinnati last Tuesday. Do you think that's a fair take, or is it just nostalgia talking?

Look, I get the idea but @bethj44 is it really that big of a deal? My old fridge still works fine and the power bill hasn't changed much. Feels like they hype up these small gains to make us buy new stuff. Sure, maybe it saves a few bucks a year, but is that worth tossing a perfectly good appliance? What are we actually saving here?
