Our biggest client meeting went sideways because we didn't check one simple thing
We were in a conference room in Chicago last month, pitching a new software package to a manufacturing company. We had the whole team there, slides ready, everything looked good. Halfway through the demo, our main contact got a confused look and said, 'Wait, this doesn't integrate with our current ERP system, does it?' We froze. We had assumed their setup was the same as their parent company's, but it wasn't. The whole 90 minute meeting fell apart because we didn't confirm their exact tech stack before walking in. Now, our whole sales process starts with a mandatory 10-point checklist for every single prospect, no exceptions. It feels basic, but that mistake cost us a deal we thought was locked. Has anyone else had a deal blow up over a simple assumption they missed?

Checklists won't fix a broken sales process though.

Ugh, preach. That's just putting a band-aid on a bullet wound.

Oh, I see it a little different. Sometimes just getting people to follow a simple checklist catches a lot of the little mistakes that add up over time.
