Bought a $70 stud finder that kept beeping at nothing, turns out the wall was just mad at me
I finally got around to hanging shelves in my garage last weekend after they sat on the floor for 3 months. Dropped $70 on one of those fancy stud finders with the lights and the beeping because I was sick of missing the studs and putting 12 holes in the drywall. First try it beeps like crazy, I drill, and there's nothing but air behind it. This happened 4 more times before I gave up and just knocked on the wall with my knuckle like my dad always did. Two minutes later I had all 3 shelves up using a $2 nail and zero electronics. So basically I paid 70 bucks to learn that my dad was right about everything. Anyone else got a tool that just sits in the drawer now because a caveman trick worked better?
Same thing happened to me with one of those laser levels that costs more than my drill. I spent an hour trying to get the stupid thing to stop flashing and just used a cheap bubble level from the dollar store instead. Now the fancy one lives in the bottom drawer with the dead batteries and broken tape measures.
