My neighbor swore I didn't need to shut off the water to swap a toilet flapper, and I believed him
Last Saturday I decided to finally fix the running toilet in my upstairs bathroom here in Dayton, and my neighbor Dave yelled through the window that I didn't need to touch the shutoff valve because "it's just a flapper, it takes two seconds." I got the old one off fine, then the fill valve popped loose and water started spraying at the ceiling while I stood there holding a soggy rubber disc like an idiot. Does anyone else have a neighbor whose advice sounds brilliant until you're mopping up 2 inches of water at 9pm?
