Spent $230 on a used tile saw for a backsplash, saved my marriage and my kitchen
When my wife wanted a new backsplash in our kitchen in Dayton, I figured I could rent a wet saw for like $60 a weekend and knock it out. Two weekends and two destroyed tiles later, the rental was costing me more than buying, so I found a used one on marketplace for $230. That saw chewed through 40 sq ft of subway tile in one afternoon with zero chips, but here is the fail part. I got cocky and tried to miter the edge trim freehand, slipped, and cut a perfect diagonal gash across the last full tile I had. Had to drive 45 minutes back to the store for one stupid piece of trim. My grandpa used to cut tile with a hand scorer and a nipper, and honestly I don't know how he did it without losing his mind. Anybody else buy a tool to dodge rental fees and end up using it for 5 other projects after?
