Why does nobody talk about how a 10 minute call with my plumber dad made me stop using duct tape on copper pipes
He asked me one question, what happens to glue when it gets hot, and now I am redoing every joint in my basement in Rochester because I finally get why my repair failed twice in 6 months.
The whole "what happens to glue when it gets hot" thing oversimplifies it though. Duct tape fails on copper for a few reasons, and heat is only one of them. The bigger issue is that the adhesive can't stick to copper oxide worth a damn, and copper builds that layer up fast, especially in a damp basement. A plumber dad giving you one clever line is great for the story, but if the surface is dirty or wet, no amount of heat logic is gonna save that tape.
