Am I the only one who thought the free financial class at the library would be a waste of a Tuesday, then actually changed how I handle money? | Big Life Changes - Opinions Matter
Am I the only one who thought the free financial class at the library would be a waste of a Tuesday, then actually changed how I handle money?
I saw a flyer at the Cincinnati library back in March for a free 2 hour class on budgeting. I figured it was just somebody trying to sell me something. But my sister pushed me to go, so I went on a Tuesday after work, mostly to get her off my back. The guy teaching it was a retired bank worker, no sales pitch, no products, just a whiteboard and some worksheets. He showed us the envelope trick, where you pull out cash for groceries and gas each week and when it's gone it's gone. I tried it for one month and spent $220 less on dumb stuff. I'm not saying it fixed my life. But I went in skeptical and walked out with something real. Has anyone else had a free local class actually pay off like that, or did I just get lucky with this one guy?
