Am I the only one who counted my failed tong attempts and hit 14 before one held?
I was cleaning the shop in Amarillo last Saturday and found a bucket of 14 tong blanks that all snapped at the bit, and the 15th one I drew out slower and it finally gripped hot steel, so now I want to know if anyone else keeps a shame pile or if I should just toss them.
What exactly gives out on yours, the weld or the jaw itself? If they are all snapping at the bit, that tells me something is off in how you are drawing the steel out, maybe too cold or too fast on the pull. I would keep the pile a while longer and study the breaks before you toss anything.
