Everyone says to use vegetable oil for quenching, but I keep getting better results with canola
I've been quenching blades in canola oil for about 8 months now and my edge retention is way more consistent. Vegetable oil smokes at a lower temp and gives me softer edges every time. Has anyone else noticed this difference with their own batches?

Exactly what I found switching to canola, way better consistency on my last six blades!

Six blades huh? So basically you've become the local canola evangelist now, preaching the good oil from your backyard forge. I'm picturing you standing over a hot anvil with a little bottle of it like it's some kind of magical potion. You probably got a whole system going, labeling each blade by oil batch number. Maybe next you'll start a support group for guys stuck on vegetable oil blends. "Hi, I'm Richard, and I've been canola-free for two weeks.
