Forgot to flux my weld and it cost me a whole Damascus billet

I was working on a pattern weld in my garage shop, got distracted by the phone, and didn't add any borax before the final fold. The scale trapped inside ruined the layers. Anyone have a good trick to remember that step every single time?

That "scale trapped inside" feeling is the absolute worst, and I've done the exact same thing.

That's exactly how our minds work sometimes, we get so used to expecting a certain pattern that when things stay still we assume something's broken. It happens with relationships too, you think you're stuck in a rut but really you're just maintaining something stable for a while. Sometimes the real surprise is realizing that nothing is wrong, it's just life staying put for a bit.
