I finally got our shop to adopt a buddy system for heavy lifts
We had a close call last week when someone nearly dropped an anvil solo. I pitched the idea to my boss, and now we always team up for big moves. It's cut down on near misses and feels way safer. How do y'all handle heavy stuff in your forges?

Thought solo work was fine until my back disagreed, now I always grab a partner.

Learn from my own painful experience, my back screamed at me after moving a couch alone last year. Now I bribe my brother with pizza to help with ANY heavy lifting. Trying to be a hero just lands you on the couch with a heating pad for a week. Some jobs are MEANT for two people, like hauling groceries up stairs or wrestling a Christmas tree into the stand. Your back isn't giving advice, it's issuing a command.

My dad threw his back out moving a washing machine by himself when he was forty. He spent two weeks flat on the floor and never tried to be a tough guy again. Your back really does send you the final bill for all those little solo jobs you thought you got away with. Now I won't even lift a full suitcase into my car trunk without asking for a hand. It's just not worth the risk of being laid up and useless for days. Smart move making it a rule to always have a partner.
