Just realized I wasted $150 on a cheap anvil from a garage sale
Picked it up last summer. Guy said it was cast steel. Got it home, hit it once with a hammer, and a chunk flew off my workpiece. Turns out it was cast iron. Now it sits in my yard as a doorstop. Anyone else get fooled by a bad anvil deal?

Exactly, that garage sale "deal" turned out to be a lesson in how we all pay twice for wanting something cheap.

Read somewhere that the same principle applies to cheap phone chargers. You buy one for five bucks, it fries your battery in three months, then you're paying full price for a replacement anyway. My buddy had an old truck he tried to save money on with bargain bin parts. Ended up replacing the same alternator three times before just getting the decent one. It's like the universe charging a tax for cutting corners.
