My second ever forge weld ended with a hammer stuck to the anvil and a cold beer
Was trying to weld a simple stack of three 1/4 inch mild steel bars last Tuesday. Got the heat looking right, sprinkled on some borax, and when I went to tap it together the hammer literally stuck to the billet. Had to wait for it to cool just to pry them apart. Total rookie hour. I'm guessing my flux was too wet or the metal wasn't clean enough. Anyone else had a forge weld go that sideways on them early on?

Ha, my buddy did that once and swore off forge welding for a month.

Did he at least get a cool scar out of it?
