Shoutout to the old guy who corrected my hammer grip

Ngl, I was at a hammer-in near Eugene last fall and this retiree watched me miss three hits in a row. He just said 'you're gripping it like a shovel, son' and moved my thumb up the handle. Has anyone else had a stranger fix something basic that changed their work for the better?
