Showerthought: I picked a gas forge over a coal one for my first shop setup.

Everyone at the local guild in Springfield said I'd regret not learning on coal, but the startup cost and clean-up time with two little kids at home made gas the clear choice for me. It's been six months, and I'm making clean blades without the soot and constant fire management. Anyone else make a similar choice and stick with it?

Honestly, isn't that just how most hobbies go now? Tbh people act like there's one "right" way to start, but picking the easier option just means you actually get to do the fun part.

Wait, hold up. The easier option isn't always the fun part though. Sometimes the "right" way is just the safe way that avoids frustration later. Like if you try to build a model kit with the wrong glue, it falls apart. You spend more time fixing it than building. Starting solid lets you actually enjoy the hobby, not fight it.

Remember when I tried to fix my bike with duct tape?
