Ask what materials you used for the seating. Code violations often come from wrong lumber or unsafe fasteners. Like, did you secure everything properly or just wing it? I once saw a bench collapse because someone skipped corner braces. Did your wife point out specific problems, like wobbling or sharp edges?

Honestly used to think the materials didn't matter much for a simple bench. Then my own build started leaning after one rainy season, turns out the cheap pine just soaked up water and warped. Ryan's right about the fasteners too, had some screws strip right out. My wife's main thing was the wobble, but she also caught a nail head sticking up I totally missed. Changed my whole approach, now I overbuild everything with treated wood and proper brackets.
