That week I burned through three anvils in five days
Last Tuesday I was forging a batch of railroad spikes and my anvil face started chipping like crazy... must have been a bad heat treat from the factory. By Thursday the replacement showed up with a crack right down the middle after just two hours of work. Friday I grabbed an old Fisher off Craigslist for $150 and it's been smooth sailing since. Has anyone else had a run of bad luck with new anvils lately?

Holee crap, three anvils in five days? That's like a whole year's worth of bad luck for most of us... I had a brand new one from a well-known brand start spalling on me back in March and I thought that was bad enough. A crack right down the middle after two hours though, that's just unreal. Glad that old Fisher worked out for you, those vintage ones are tanks.
