The debate between coal and propane for my forge...

I spent 2 months going back and forth on whether to stick with coal or switch over to propane for my setup. Coal is cheaper per pound for sure, about 30 cents a pound at my local supplier in Ohio, but the smoke and cleanup was wearing me out. I ended up going with propane and a 100lb tank, and honestly the heat control is so much easier. Has anyone else made the switch and regretted it or is it just me?

Well a buddy of mine down in West Virginia made the switch from coal to propane about a year ago and he said the only thing he regrets is not doing it sooner. He was spending every Saturday shoveling ash and dealing with clinkers, now he just turns a knob and gets clean heat. He did mention he misses the smell of coal smoke in the morning though.

Oh man, "misses the smell of coal smoke in the morning" - that got me. I switched from a wood stove to a pellet stove a few years back and I still get that same weird nostalgia for the old smoky mornings. Totally hear your buddy on the Saturday shoveling deal, I was spending every Sunday cleaning out ash and dealing with creosote buildup. The convenience is just night and day though, I just pour in a bag of pellets and forget about it.
