Tried those fancy ceramic coatings on my anvil face and now I'm eating crow

I laughed when a guy at the guild meeting swore by putting a thin ceramic coating on his anvil face to reduce noise and bounce. Called it a gimmick to his face, probably came off as a jerk. Three months later I got a free sample from a tool supplier and figured what the heck, I'd waste an afternoon. After using it for about 40 hours of forging, the ring is way lower and my hammer doesn't slide off the work as much. Still not sure if it's worth the $60 a bottle for the name brand stuff though. Anyone here tried the cheaper DIY ceramic paint options or is that just asking for chipping?

Man, I felt that "eating crow" part deep in my bones. It's rough when you talk smack about something and then it turns out to actually work.

The real gut punch is when you realize the stuff you mocked actually WORKS and you just looked dumb in front of everyone.
