Appreciation post: Seeing the film first totally flipped how I enjoy books now!

I always got mad when movies skipped book parts, thinking it ruined the story. Then I saw the film before reading and the pictures in my head made the book even better! It's a cool way to connect both versions.

My friend argued the movie version of Jaws made the book's characters feel more real to her. She said having those actors fixed in her mind gave the written fights and conversations a crazy tension the plain text didn't have for me. It makes me wonder if some stories are just built for the visual medium to lay the groundwork. Maybe the book then becomes a deeper dive into a world you already visually believe in.

Guess my "book first" snobbery was just stubbornness all along.

Honestly, I saw the movie "Fight Club" first and it ruined the book for me.
