Bought the full 'Red Rising' box set before watching the show

I dropped 45 dollars on the whole Red Rising trilogy because everyone raved about it, only to find out the TV adaptation is stuck in development and might never come out. Now I have three books on my shelf that I probably won't get to for months. Has anyone else gotten burned buying a series based on an adaptation that hasn't even launched yet?

Heard from a friend that the showrunner bailed like a year ago and the whole thing's been dead since then. Still, the books are supposed to be solid even without the show, so maybe you'll dig them once you crack em open.
