Changed my mind about the Dune movie after a second watch

I was dead set that the 1984 David Lynch version was better than the new Denis Villeneuve one from 2021. But then I watched the new film again last weekend with my son who had read the book for his high school class in Portland. He pointed out how much more faithful the new version is to the political details in the first half of the novel, and that convinced me. Has anyone else had a big flip in opinion after rewatching an adaptation?

Agreed that second watch really lets the political stuff sink in better.

Got a buddy who watched the first season three times before it clicked for him. He told me he spent the whole first pass just trying to keep track of who was who and what they were doing. By the third time, he started noticing how the characters' personal choices tied back to the bigger political plots, like how Jessica's alcoholism was connected to her family's old money bullshit. He said @the_jake is spot on about that second watch making things clearer, cause that's exactly when he started catching the subtle digs at lobbying and corporate control.
