Chose the book over the series for 'The Expanse' and never looked back

After reading the first 3 books, I tried watching the show on Amazon Prime last spring. The actors were great, but they merged two characters into one and cut a whole subplot about the protomolecule that I loved. I picked the books for the rest of the series, and honestly, the pacing just felt richer with all the inner thoughts and political details. Has anyone else run into a TV adaptation that forced you to make this kind of call, and which side did you land on?

Same thing happened to me with The Expanse. The books just have more room to breathe. Show was fine, but the books felt like the real story.
