I finally watched the new Dune movie after putting it off for months

I read the book back in college and always pictured the sandworms way different, like more slimy and less armored. Seeing them on screen in IMAX was crazy, they felt huge and real but it kinda overwrote my own mental image, you know? Has anyone else had a movie version totally replace how you pictured something from the book?

Actually, the Great Hall scenes were filmed at Christ Church in Oxford, not a soundstage. They used the real dining hall there for the first two movies. The stone floor and those long tables are the real deal. It's one of those cases where the real place is pretty much exactly how it looked on screen, which is kind of wild. They just added the floating candles and the enchanted ceiling with effects later.

Oh man, the Harry Potter movies did that to me with the castle.

The Great Hall set was so huge they built it on a soundstage with a real stone floor. Did you ever feel let down seeing the real castle locations after that? The movie version felt so alive and full of magic, but the actual ruins are just... quiet. It's like they captured a feeling the real place can't ever have.
